The Mahbub Ul Haq Research Center promotes interdisciplinary and creative inquiry at the Lahore University of Management Sciences. Drawing on the legacy of Dr. Mahbub ul Haq, founder of the United Nations Development Programme Human Development Report, the Center leverages university resources, capacities, and people to support research in the humanities and social sciences. Building on the successes of previous LUMS initiatives, the Center fosters collaborative research environments by creating spaces, conversations, and research opportunities that bring together scholars, practitioners, and students. In these ways, the Center seeks to critically contribute to academic and policy-level discussions of contemporary issues in Pakistan and the wider region.
To promote such critical research, the Mahbub Ul Haq Research Center develops programming and resources oriented towards faculty, practitioners, and students.
- Faculty: The center provides research grants and opportunities to researchers. The center creates linkages with leading practitioners and institutions to inform policy-making and supports purely academic research in the humanities and social sciences.
- Students: The center integrates knowledge into classroom teaching material, instills research methodology, and offers faculty-mentored research opportunities and grants.
